Human-Centered Design

In my group project to develop an at home tool to circumvent conventional recycling streams for users with an at-home device, we had to spend a long time debating and iterating the activation mechanism for our cardboard-crushing device as well as ensuring user safety during routine operation. As such after conducting interviews with subject matter experts and creating a risk matrix for use of the box-crusher, we were ready to begin prototyping.

We moved onto prototyping our designs on paper and 3D modeling softwares. Another important aspect of human-centered design in this project was to ensure we worked under the guidelines of ergonomic design and that our product did not place users under risk of bio-mechanical strain; as such, we performed REBA and RULA analysis on users acting through the process of using the box-crusher.
